knit love // herringbone cowl

The herringbone stitch is something I pinned and notebooked and saved for later anytime I came across is. I'm not exactly sure what prompted me to finally try it, but nearly a year ago I did and fell in LOVE!

My first project was this cowl. I looked at the pattern that's available at Purl Soho and modified it a little for the amount of yarn I had and for time (I didn't want it to take forever). The pictures they have are very helpful!! What I used .... > US #17 circular needles, 32 inch (as suggested, but as I didn't cast on as many <keep reading> I could have used a 28 inch and been okay)

> Madeline Tosh DK Twist Yarn, 1 skein (is 250 yards, although I did not use all of it) > Stitch marker (which was probably one of my daughters hair ties because I don't have jumbo markers) I cast on 100 stitches (rather than 220), but have changed that now to doing 90 so it's not as loose as my first one. Mine does not wrap like their pattern does. I knit until it reached 10 inches and then cast off. This has to be in the top five of my favorite things to knit. I"m in progress on another style of the herringbone stitch done flat (rather than in the round) for a scarf ... stay posted for my notes on that :)

Stay cozy, - Sarah
